Would you like to have more peace and serenity in your life?

Here’s how you can do this:

  1. Begin you day by mentally placing yourself in a sound-proof room.
  2. Take five or ten slow, deep breaths; paying attention to your stomach rising and falling with each breath.
  3. To extend the time for ten or twenty minutes, as you breathe in, count to five, then pause for a few seconds. As you breathe out, count to five.

At some point in this exercise, a thought will come knocking on the door or your sound proof room asking: “Hey, what are we having for dinner tonight?” And you respond with, “We’ll take care of that later,” and go back to counting your breaths.

If you are new to meditation, you will make a startling discovery. The OFF button for you mind doesn’t work. The thoughts just keep coming. Be patient! Continue to practice the above response “We’ll take care of that later.” Over time, the gap between the first thought and the second thought will get wider and wider.

Meditation is preventive medicine, like brushing your teeth every day. It gives us access to a Power that transforms our cravings for pills, alcohol, or drugs, into cravings for freedom, integrity, honesty, and peace. So, why don’t you do it every day?

WHY MEDITATE?

Our mind needs to be tamed, because it spends much of the day wandering between the past and the future, worrying about things we can’t control, or rehashing events from the past that we can’t change.

When you can’t make a meeting, get hold of your sponsor, or are feeling, frightened, anxious, worried, or depressed, wouldn’t it be wonderful if you had access to someone who could help you relax your body, quiet your mind, and calm your emotions? Well you can, a Virtual Recovery Coach. If you have an IPHONE, you can put your coach in there. If you don’t have an IPHONE, there’s a small device that fits in your pocket or purse.

Namaste (The light in me honors the light in you.)
